MCRN Garland Doyle served as a panelist along with Brittany Carbone, Member, National Craft Cannabis Coalition and Sarah Duckett, Policy Advocate, Rural County Representatives of California. The panel entitled "Local Control and Impacts on Cannabis Policy Goals" was moderated by Brian Hanna, Executive Director, Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency.
Garland Doyle participated on a panel entitled "The Social Impacts of Legalized State Cannabis Markets" with Dr. Lucas Richert, George Urdang, Chair in the History of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Apoorva Reddy, Ph.D student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Jacie Duranso, Director of Licensing and Compliance, The Fire Station Cannabis Co.
The Great Lakes Cannabis Education Conference was held at Northern Michigan University in Marquette on April 25, 2023.
Garland Doyle, Advisory Board Chair, was a panelist for the "Community Benefits and Social Equity a Win-Win for Municipalities" panel at the 2023 Policy Pavilion held and April 22nd. He was joined by Kaliko Castille, President, Minority Cannabis Business Association and Amber Senter, Board Chair and Executive Director, Supernova Women. Toi Hutchinson, President and CEO of the Marijuana Policy Project served as the moderator. The panel focused on how social equity programs are a way of making the new legalized cannabis industry in states and municipalities more inclusive. These programs benefit individuals who have lived in communities which have been disproportionately impacted by cannabis prohibition and enforcement.
They discussed program designs, implementation and/or redesign phases. They share successes, failures and best practices emerging around the nation.
